West Perth Women’s Football Club Secure WAFLW league place

BGC Housing Group have been partnered with the West Perth Women’s Football Club since 2020, including a 3-year sponsorship of the clubs Women’s indigenous program, as well as a 1-year guernsey sponsorship, the first of its kind in WA. So, it’s with great pride that we announce that they have been granted a licence to compete in the 2022 Optus WAFL competition, which commences in mid-February.

BGC Housing Group sponsors the Indigenous program at the West Perth Women’s Football Club, offering talented women the opportunity to pursue a career in football. The scholarship covers fees, uniforms, events, coaching, development, and strength conditioning for players, and is the first scholarship of its kind in WA. In an additional initiative, 50% of all coffee proceeds from our café go towards West Perth.

The addition of West Perth will see the WAFLW expand to seven teams, endorsing another significant milestone for the competition heading into its fourth season. West Perth will join South Fremantle, Claremont, East Fremantle, Peel, Subiaco, and Swan Districts contending in the Premier Women’s competition.

It’s exciting to see another club added into a growing competition, supporting the continued expansion of female football and talent development outcomes. WAFC Executive Manager of WAFL & Talent Scott Baker said: “Female participation continues to be the number one growth area in football within Western Australia and It’s really important that we continue strengthening the talent pathway for those players who want to pursue the opportunity to play at WAFLW or AFLW level.”

The West Perth women’s program has been outstanding over several years and has developed talent that is ready for the WAFLW League competition. The standard of the competition is growing, and the addition of West Perth will allow more females to continue their journey on the female pathway.

“West Perth Football Club CEO Joe McCarthy said the club was thrilled to obtain a WAFLW license, giving reward to a women’s program that has had a sustained period of success. “This is a really exciting period for the West Perth Football Club,” McCarthy said. “The time and dedication that has been put into our women’s program from a number of people has been enormous and this is great reward for our players and staff.”

As proud supporters of the West Perth Women’s Football Club, we’re incredibly excited to see the club succeed and welcome the opportunity for these women to pursue opportunities in WAFLW or AFLW. We’d like to extend our congratulations to everyone involved at the club, and we’re looking forward to supporting them in what will surely be another massive year in 2022!
