Celebrating NAIDOC Week at BGC Housing Group

This year’s theme, ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud,’ celebrates the unyielding spirit of Indigenous communities and invites all to stand in solidarity, amplifying the voices that have long been silenced.

NAIDOC is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history, diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet.

BGC Housing Group proudly recognise the invaluable contributions of many First Nations individuals within the building industry and our community, in particular through our support of Kolbang and the West Perth Women’s Football Club Indigenous Program.

Kolbang, an Aboriginal-owned licensed electrical contracting company, plays a crucial role in servicing our builds, with a mission to enhance the wellbeing of the First Nations community in WA.

Our ongoing partnership with the West Perth Football Club supports their Indigenous program, empowering women to have the support to pursue careers in sports. This program offers talented Indigenous women the opportunity to pursue their passion in football. For the 2024 season the BGC Housing Group sponsored players are Jamarah Woods, Kyra Abbott, Jekylah Garlett, Imahra Cameron, Kailea Thomas and Tamashya Blurton.

This week the BGC Housing Group team had the privilege of participating in an educational Indigenous Art and History class led by Cyndy Moody, a renowned singer, songwriter and Founder of DjooonyART Creatives.

The class provided an opportunity for staff to learn about the Noongar language and interpret traditional art symbols. As part of this interactive session, our staff collaboratively painted a canvas guided by their learnings. The session was a fantastic experience and fostered a deep connection and understanding of these vibrant cultures.
